The Jacint Verdaguer school, located near Barcelona airport, has "invested in innovative technology" by installing a scientifically proven and Swedish-developed solution for air purification and virus control before the start of the semester.

Going back to school after the Christmas holidays has been a concern for many families due to the high level of infection that escalated during the holidays. For this reason, the school in Castelldefels installed an air purification solution before reopening the classrooms in January 2022.

All classrooms at the Jacint Verdaguer school now have a commercial air purifier combined with a virus inhibitor, which neutralizes viruses immediately while they are still in the air. This double protection minimizes the spread of viruses, such as SARS-CoV-2, and eliminates major problems with bacteria, allergens and pollution.

The technology is silent and can work 24/7 with low energy consumption. It fights the spread of viruses that cause diseases such as COVID-19, winter vomiting and seasonal flu, while providing air purified from, for example, pollen and ultra-fine particles caused by traffic pollution.

The head of the school, Francesc Morilla, commented in the local media how the system provides an extra layer of security and works completely in the background as they are "not even heard in the classrooms".

This experience and the rise of the pandemic have prompted the school to "invest in innovation", as they call it. Of course, in addition to the willingness to use technology, there is also a focus on other layers of protection in the fight against the spread of infection. "There is alcohol gel, for example, and to enter the school everyone now has to pass through another technology that automatically measures their body temperature," adds Morilla.

The air purification system immediately demonstrated its ability when the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the indoor air was reduced from an initial 105 (very high) to 4 (very low) after only seven minutes of use in one of the classrooms. Particle levels of sizes PM2.5 and PM0.3 showed similar developments, being reduced from 38 to 1 and from 4200 to 360 respectively in the same short period of time.
