How to work through your afternoon slump
- without energy drinks or coffee
Do you feel tired as the workday draws to a close? Your indoor air is crucial for feeling strong enough to get through the whole day. Better indoor air will help you maintain energy levels in a healthy way.
You shouldn’t have to drink energy drinks in the afternoon to get through your workday. That afternoon meeting is only going to be demanding and unproductive if you’re tired.
The only question is how to keep your energy level up without stuffing yourself with lots of sugar and caffeine – which is almost everyone’s solution to this problem.
The factors that are crucial for maintaining an even energy level during the day are your food intake, your sleeping habits, and the air you breathe. If you’re eating food that provides more than temporary energy kicks, and you sleep your six hours a night, you have a good chance of maintaining your energy level.
But you also need air in your workplace that’s clean and healthy. You breathe just over 8,000 breaths a day, and if the air in your office is unhealthy, it will cause physical harm. In the short term, this will result in feeling a lack of energy, reduced ability to concentrate, difficulties in performing tasks, and even headaches.
“You would probably never drink dirty water, but it’s just as bad if you breathe bad air,” says Joakim Hansson, business area manager at LightAir, who works daily to deliver clean air, free from both harmful particles and viruses.
LightAir’s air purification and antiviral technologies have been tested and verified by several prominent research institutes; first a seven-year study at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, and then in a recent COVID-related study at IrsiCaixa in Barcelona.
“The market is flooded with products that claim to rid the air of particles, even viruses, but very few have convincing scientific evidence,” says Mattias Wahlgren, Group Innovation Manager at Coor, a major facility management group that has LightAir Health+ installed in its head office in Stockholm. “I became really interested when I realized that LightAir’s technology was backed by evidence from that seven-year independent study led by the Karolinska Institute.”
A safe workplace provides clean air
So what’s bad air? There are a wide range of types with several different sources. This includes bacteria or allergens that people unknowingly bring into the building, or particles originating in the workplace itself, such as harmful printer particles, or nearby traffic pollution that enters through open windows.
Building ventilation moves particles around and spreads them out, just as people moving through the building also affect the spread. Furthermore, exhaled air affects air quality, as do other particles generated by daily office activities.
Mold is another problem that is fairly common. And if it is black mold, it can have a really serious impact on the health of people who regularly spend long hours in the building, such as asthma and respiratory infections.
“The best thing is to ensure that the air circulating in the room is of the highest quality. Then employees can be assured that they won’t be harmed by their work environment,” says Hansson. “In addition, you can reduce sick leave and keep energy levels up so that productivity can be maintained. You simply create a humanly sustainable workplace.”
Especially important for coworkers who are allergic or asthmatic
Fresh, clean air is especially important for those who are allergic or asthmatic. For these individuals, indoor air is absolutely critical to how they feel, and thus how alert they are.
Research shows that over 20 percent of Sweden’s population suffers from pollen allergy, and that 10 percent have asthma. LightAir’s products have proven to make a big difference for these people.
“I have much less trouble here at work than at home,” says pollen allergy sufferer Victoria Åkerström, who is Group Manager Accounts Payable at Coor. “It’s wonderful, I feel a huge difference.”
LightAir offers a subscription solution where you don’t have to buy products and then worry about regular maintenance. Instead, your supplier installs the equipment and maintains it without you having to lift a finger – all at a fixed subscription cost, including a warranty commitment.
The company’s air purifiers can advantageously be ceiling mounted, and are the absolute quietest on the market, so you will never be disturbed by them. You only experience the positive end of the deal, namely clean air at a predictable cost, without any maintenance. It doesn’t get easier than that.
