LightAir IonFlow air purifier generates from the three corona needles billions of electrons per second that transforms into negative ions when they come in contact with the oxygen molecules in the air. The production of electrons results in a concentration of more than 250.000 negative ions per cm3 measured from one meter distance, which is, as far as we know, more than any other ionizing air purifier has ever attained before without serious side effects such as generation of unhealthy levels of ozone.
LightAir IonFlow Technology uses two pole ionizing technique. By using 110V or 220V and very low strength of current 50 mA and an effect of only 5W the technology is capable through a cascade of diodes and capacitors to accelerate an extremely high voltage of more than 200.000 eV. This enables the extremely high production of several billion electrons per second, meaning several billion negative ions per second. The negative ions attach to the neutral and positively charged pollution particles in the air, such as from dust, pollen allergens, smoke, car fumes, pet dander, bacteria, mold, viruses etc. It is especially effective in removing the smallest particles in the air, usually referred to as fine and ultra fine particles. These are considered the most hazardous to our health. The collector, which has a positive charge will attract the particles and slowly change color as it becomes more and more covered by particles. The collector esentially works as a large magnet for particles in the air. When necessary, the collector can easily be removed and washed clean in water and washing-up liquid. Larger clusters of particles will fall to the floor before being removed by regular vacuum cleaning.
The generation of electrons and thus the production of negative ions continuously charge particles in the air. When all the particles in the room are charged the generation of electrons decrease and the units starts to generate only as many electrons as is needed to charge the new particles that constantly enters the room. The room will stay relatively cleaner at all time as long as the air purifier is turned on.

We recommend that you place your IonFlow air purifier at least 3 feet (1 meter) away from all walls and furniture and that you hang the 500C model 1.5 feet (0.5 meter) down from the ceiling. If these recommendations are not followed, nearby walls and/or furniture may become somewhat dirty.
We also recommend that you place the air purifier at least 3 feet (1 meter) from all metallic objects because of their potential risk to become static and act as collectors. The small electric charge the metallic objects might attain is harmless.

No, contrary to HEPA filters which quickly loses efficiency once they get dirty (could be as quickly as a few weeks in dirty environments) the IonFlow product does not lose efficiency over time. Even if the collector get extremely dirty it still maintains its capability to attract negatively charged particles. It is important to note that it’s not the collector that neutralizes dangerous particles such as viruses, bacteria or allergens, but these particles are already neutralized in the air at the moment negative ions attached to them. Furthermore, even in the absence of a collector the ions would attach to particles causing them to eventually drop to the floor due to their increased weight or stick to walls and furniture, thereby making the air cleaner.
Yes, since the IonFlow products don’t produce any noise and are completely silent as well as extremely energy efficient we recommend to have the product on at all times. IonFlow air purifier absolute noise level is at only 5dB. The relative noise level including background noise according to standard is 21dB. The threshold for hearing is usually set at 10dB.
